In the words of the RZA, circa 1995:
“The only album I wanted to come out in the summer was Cuban Linx… in the summer, it’s more out in the world with it… Cuban Linx [is] more of an out-in-the-world type of album” – RZA (The Wu-Tang Manual, pg. 108).
Twenty summers later, the abbot’s words are still true – Raekwon and Ghostface Killah are more out-in-the-world than ever. With Ghost prepping for the release of his Twelve Reasons to Die II this week, and Rae enjoying the spoils of Fly International Luxurious Art, the duo has remained the most diligent Wu-Tang members of the past decade.
But there still remains one genesis they owe their success to: Only Built 4 Cuban Linx.
For its vivid cocaine-centered imagery and introduction to the group’s new Gambino pseudonyms, Cuban Linx has persevered as not only a Wu-Tang classic, but a watershed album in gangsta rap. And what’s more, it’s turning 20 this week. So to celebrate, Ghostface and Raekwon are kicking off an anniversary tour:

The 32-show tour steps off in Philly on July 7th and ends in L.A. on August 18th. In anniversary fashion, the album will be performed in its entirety, with up and coming rapper, Dillon Cooper, set to open.
